Parental control software for Windows

How to protect children from the Internet? Not from the cognitive, constructive side of it, but from the reverse side - in places openly destructive, in places with hidden destructive influence, in places simply reflecting the realities of this world, but with which even adults are not always morally ready to face. What can we say about children with their fragile psyche. To help parents, a special type of software has been created - parental control. These can be programs with a different selection of functionality, with different control mechanisms, but they all pursue the same goal - to protect children from the information for which they are not yet ready, and to educate in them a sense of proportion when immersed in computer reality. What are these programs? Let's consider a selection of those for the Windows environment.

Parental control software for Windows

1. Parental Controls Windows 7 and 8.1

For software such as parental control, in principle, you do not need to go far. This feature is included with Windows. In its versions 7 and 8.1, the function is possible to apply to local accounts of parents and children. For a child, you need to create a separate local account - a regular standard user in Win7 and a special child account in Win8.1.

Further, parental control is configured for this separate account in the control panel. In the settings for changing the Win7 account, you need to select the "Set parental control" item. In Win8.1, this item is called "Configure Family Safety".

Click on the child user.

And we set restrictions for his account.

We can limit this way:

• Set a time limit for working with a computer;

• Create your own web filter - a list of prohibited or allowed sites;

• Restrict the launch of classic programs and applications from the Microsoft Store in Win8.1.

As a result of the introduction of parental control, we will be able to receive reports on actions in the child's account - the time of its use, sites visited, open games and programs, files downloaded from the Internet.

In Win8.1, if necessary, parental control can be controlled remotely from your Microsoft account in a browser window. To do this, you need to connect it to the system.

2. Windows 10 parental controls

"Ten" inherited standard parental control from the predecessor versions, but in this version of Windows it can be managed only from the Microsoft account in the browser window. The child must also have a Microsoft account. A parent in a Microsoft web account, in the "Family" section, creates a family group.

And connects the child's Microsoft account to the group.

Further, such a connection to the family group must be confirmed in a letter sent to the child's mail.

Then, in the Windows 10 settings, the child is allowed to log on to this particular device from his personal account.

From this point on, the parent, by logging into his Microsoft web account from any device, can control the child's use of the computer entrusted to him.

As part of this control, you can:

• Limit the time of working with a computer;

• Filter sites;

• Restrict the purchase of applications from the Microsoft Store;

• Block the launch of certain classic programs and applications from the Microsoft Store, or apply filters for software by the type of age restrictions;

• View the actions of the child;

• Use the function of finding a child by tracking his location through a mobile device based on Win10 or with the Microsoft Launcher launcher embedded in the Android gadget.

3. WinLock

WinLock is a third party parental control software for Windows. It does not require a separate account for the child, works on the principle of password access, and offers a little more than the standard Windows parental control is capable of.

WinLock provides:

• Blocking of certain system settings and functions;

• Blocking of individual sections of the disk, removable media, folders, files;

• Blocking of classic programs;

• Ability to create a list of permitted sites, subject to the prohibition of access to all others;

• Blocking sites for the keywords they contain;

• Computer timer;

• Keeping a log of user actions in terms of attempts to commit prohibited actions;

• Capture screenshots after a specified time;

• Remote control of the program over IP using another program from its creator WinLock Remote Administrator;

• Saving and using multiple profiles with different pre-programmed settings.

Access to opening WinLock, changing settings, unloading the program process is password protected. It is impossible to delete the program until it is manually terminated. And to complete the work, you need a password, respectively.

The program is paid, there is a fully functional 30-day trial.

4. ContentWasher

ContentWasher is another powerful Windows parental control program with a focus on keeping kids safe online. It works on the principle of password access protection, allows you to set parental control settings for both the current Windows account and others, provides for configuring the program from other computers via a local network using the administration module.

ContentWasher features:

• Blocking Internet content, incoming emails and ICQ messages for unwanted keywords;

• Filtering HTTPS traffic;

• Creation of lists of allowed or prohibited sites;

• Application of safe mode in search engines;

• Blocking e-mail and ICQ contacts;

• Blocking classic programs;

• Blocking of downloading files;

• Setting the time allowed for the use of the computer and separately the Internet;

• Working with several profiles with different software settings;

• Keeping a log of user actions;

• Access to parental control in your personal account on the website of the creator of the program;

• Remote viewing of the child's computer screen via the local network.

ContentWasher is a paid product, there is a fully functional 7-day trial.

5. Utilities from Sordum

Free of charge, while more flexible than using the standard Windows parental control, the system can be configured using its own means. For example, add some objectionable sites to the hosts file, use UAC or local group policy settings to reduce the capabilities of a child's account, connect a DNS service to filter sites dangerous for children, etc. But some of these actions require knowledge and experience with Windows. The solution to this problem is offered by Sordum: on its website you can download free portable utilities, which are a usable implementation of deep Windows settings. These are simple profile utilities for a narrow range of tasks; they can be used separately according to the situation and in combination. What's in Sordum's arsenal for parental control?

Dns angel

Dns Angel is the simplest implementation of using well-known DNS services to filter sites that are dangerous for children. We just turn on the button with the inscription of the preferred DNS service (for Runet, by the way, it is better to use Yandex Family). To disable, press the "Default DNS" button.

Simple run blocker

The Simple Run Blocker utility allows you to block classic Windows programs with ".exe" startup files. Block everything except the favorites list, or some added to the list. In the settings of the utility there is an option to block the Microsoft Store.

Edge blocker

The Edge Blocker utility blocks the operation of the Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10. It can be used in conjunction with the previous utility to block Internet access by blocking the browsers on the system.

Win10 Settings Blocker

The Win10 Settings Blocker utility lets you block all or some of the Control Panel and Settings app settings in Windows 10.

To block all settings, you must select the "Disable settings" value. To block all but the selected settings, you need to add them to the list and select the "Show only these" value.

BlueLife Hosts Editor

The BlueLife Hosts Editor utility is a convenient interface for blocking unwanted sites using the hosts file. Add domains to the list of its window with redirecting them to the address 127.0.0.1, put a checkmark next to them and save the settings of the hosts file.

The information has become publicly available. On the one hand, this is good, because a modern person can access almost any knowledge of humanity in just a couple of clicks. However, there is also a disadvantage: curious children can find what they are not supposed to know yet. Online pornography, destructive computer games, drugs - any caring parent will certainly want to protect their child from all of the above. For this purpose, parental control was invented, which can be installed in all modern versions of Windows.

What it is?

Parental Control is a special function for setting restrictions for a child on a computer. It allows you to:

  • limit the time the baby spends at a PC or laptop (the device will turn itself off at a given time);
  • prohibit the child from accessing certain games or programs;
  • monitor the baby's actions at the computer;
  • prohibit visits to specific sites, and so on.

Parental control can be installed both in Windows itself and using third-party programs. In this article, we will cover both methods.

Setting up parental controls in Windows 7 and 10

В Windows 7 it is very easy to install the parental control function. To do this, turn on the computer and go to control Panel: there you will see a tab "User accounts" to click on. Next, a window will be displayed, in which there will be an option to create a new account - use it. Then come up with a name for the user and check the box next to "Basic access" ... After you will be automatically redirected to the tab with all users: now it's time to set up parental controls on Windows 7. Click on the created account and click on the corresponding text prompting you to set parental controls. That's it, the function is on. Its configuration is very simple, and therefore there is no need to describe all the processes step by step - you will figure it out yourself.

Now let's talk about how to put parental controls in Windows 10 ... To install it on your computer, go to the "Settings" tab by pressing the Windows key on the device keyboard (a window is shown on it). Then you need to go to the accounts tab and click on "Family and other users" ... There you will see a plus sign offering to add a family member - and you need to click on it. Then add a new child account and fill in all the information that the operating system will require. There are a lot of unnecessary problems with the tenth Windows, so if you have any questions while setting up parental controls, you can find answers on specialized forums.

Attention! After setting up parental controls, be sure to come up with passwords for other accounts on the computer so that the child cannot use them and disable the above function.

Third party parental control software

Many people complain that the standard parental controls natively available in Windows OS do not do their job correctly. For example, sites are blocked only in Edge and Internet Explorer browsers, and Google Chrome doesn't care about blocking. For these and other reasons, many developers create their own parental control apps. Below you will find a list of some of them.

ChildWebGuardian Program

This computer application is a kind of filter. It checks the content of sites that the child visits, and if obscene content (porn, violence, drugs, etc.) is found on them, the program will immediately block the Internet resource.

ChildWebGuardian works with all browsers and operating systems (starting from XP), which standard parental control cannot boast of. Also, users will be able to personally add certain sites to the blacklist. The application allows you to block not only Internet resources, but also certain programs on your computer. ChildWebGuardian is available in two versions: free and paid (with the "PRO" prefix).

The advantages of the program include:

  • the presence of the Russian language (since it was created by domestic developers);
  • more or less clear interface.

The disadvantages should be highlighted:

  • impossibility of blocking messengers, except for the outdated and no longer needed by anyone ICQ;
  • lack of detailed statistics on what actions the child performed on the computer.

HT Parental Control

The above program should be installed on the computer by paranoid parents. She does not just filter, but total parental control, which James Bond himself would envy. The application gives all the possibilities for full surveillance: you can find out what sites the child visits, what games he plays, and even what the kid enters on the keyboard!

Otherwise, this is the most common program for parental control, with which you can limit the time your child spends in front of the computer, block access to games, and so on. If your kid is "advanced" and knows how to bypass blockages, then this application will not work for him. This is because you can block the registry editor, control panel, device manager and other system tools that could serve as a loophole.

Of the advantages of HT Parental Control, it should be noted:

  • perfectly implemented reporting on many actions of the kid at the computer;
  • the opportunity to use the program for free for two weeks;
  • the presence of the Russian language.

The disadvantage of the program is its cost, which at the time of this writing is $ 40. However, you can install it for a few days and test what we wrote about above.

Kids PC Time Administrator

All that this program does is to limit the time spent at the computer for the child, which can be done using the standard parental control function in any modern Windows. She can't do anything else, and therefore her value is questionable. With its help, you can only set allowed and prohibited periods. For example, you can specify that your baby is not allowed to use the computer after 10:00 pm and until 3:00 pm. The program will simply not allow the child to go to their child's profile during the specified hours.

KinderGate Parental Control

The program was created to protect a child from malicious sites and has its own database, which contains about 500 million prohibited Internet resources. The figure, of course, is large, but most of the sites are in English, which is irrelevant for a Russian-speaking person.

This application is otherwise similar to the one in the first position of our list. Some users note that it is easy to install, but removing it completely from your computer is not an easy task. For this reason, we do not recommend that you use KinderGate Parental Control.

Now you know how to set up parental controls on a computer to keep your child safe! Apply the information obtained in the article for the benefit of your baby!

This means that it is enough to configure the utility once, and not to do it separately for each device. In addition, the program is completely free and supports both Windows and Mac OS.

Remote control of network activity

MSPY

The program belongs to the parent software, suitable for Mac OS, Windows, iOS and Android operating systems. Among the features of the PC version is the creation of screenshots of the desktop and the saving of all information that the child typed on the keyboard (keylogger function). The utility can control how long the computer has been used and what applications were launched on it.

The advantages of MSPY include detailed reports and 24/7 technical support from developer representatives. The same program controls which applications are installed on the computer. The only negative is the high price. Depending on the length of use, the monthly subscription fee ranges from $ 22 to $ 70.

Parental control software built into the OS

There is no need to download additional software to restrict children's access to content that is not intended for them. Sometimes the task can be solved using the already built-in functions of the Windows and Mac OS operating systems.

Parental Controls: Panel on Mac

The Apple operating system has received built-in tools, thanks to which you can control the time spent at the computer and customize access to certain programs and sites. Parental Controls are available on all Mac OS platforms since X 10.7. To block resources on the Internet, set up a filter specifying which programs are allowed to run. It is possible to prevent even the sending of e-mail and messages in iChat - you can only communicate with the specified contacts.

Windows Live Family Safety

The utility is highly customizable, but requires creating a Live ID account. The Family Safety website is used to customize it to user requirements.

The solution is completely free and can be installed on any Windows PC or laptop starting from Vista. Its blocking efficiency is slightly lower in comparison with other programs that are not embedded in the system. But to block most of the resources not intended for children, the capabilities of Live Family Safety will be sufficient.

Parental Control in Windows is a built-in feature of all operating systems from Microsoft, with which parents can organize the child's work at the computer, prohibit the use of certain programs or sites, and view statistics on PC activity.

The function is useful in any family, because you will always be aware of how much time the child spends at the computer, what sites he browses and what games he plays. One of the main parental control options is setting the time to turn on the PC. You can prevent your child from turning on the computer, for example, after six in the evening. As a result, he will not be able to log into his account in any way.

Windows Parental Controls

With the standard control option, parents will be able to:

  • Track all the actions that the child performed at the computer. What programs were launched and how long they worked. The system provides the PC administrator account with detailed reports on children's accounts. Thus, you can get the most complete picture of the interaction between the child and the computer during the week or month;
  • Parental control on a Windows computer allows you to install game programs, taking into account their age limit. The child will not even suspect that there is an active monitoring function. During the installation of games, the system will automatically verify the digital signature of the installer, which contains the name of the game, the developer's company and the age limit. If the age is higher than the one allowed by you, the application will not install under the guise of a system error;
  • Full control over working with the browser, search engines and various web resources. Track the history of your child's activity on the Internet, limit the use of sites whose descriptions contain the keywords you specified;
  • Limiting the time of working at the computer. Set the time period during which the child can turn on the computer. After the required time has elapsed, the gadget will automatically shut down. This option will allow the child to organize their daytime schedule and help to get used to the limited sitting at the computer without the constant requests of parents to turn off the device.

Create accounts with password

Before setting up parental controls in any version of Windows, you need to create two accounts on your computer - for you and your child. If the account of the parents is without a password, the child will be able to bypass all the restrictions set without problems by logging in under the administrator's account.

[signoff icon = "emo-thumbsup"] The child's account does not need to be password protected. Without entering the code word, it will be easier for the account owner to get started with the computer. You just need to click on your profile photo and wait for the desktop to load. [/ Signoff]

Setting up parental controls in Windows 10

Parental Controls in Windows 10 has even more features and capabilities. The innovation that the developer launched is the option to control purchases in the Microsoft store. Parents can set a maximum purchase amount and age limit. Thus, a child cannot buy a game that is intended for a certain age.

There are 5 categories of software in the app store, sorted by age:

  • 6+ years old;
  • 12+ years old;
  • 16+ years old;

Immediately after creating a new account, log in under her name and check if she really was created in the "Child" category. Also, you can customize the design of the desktop and add all the shortcuts necessary for the child's work. This will allow children to get started faster and not search for the necessary programs in all the folders of the system.

To manage the child's recording settings, go to the page https://account.microsoft.com/account/ManageMyAccount?destrt=FamilyLandingPage and log in with the record data of the owner (administrator) of the computer.

The second account is already linked to yours. To start setting up, just click on the additional profile icon.

The Internet carries many temptations, so the desire of parents to somehow protect their children from the "pernicious influence" of the World Wide Web is quite understandable. At the same time, completely banning the Internet is not the best solution: there is a lot of useful and important information on the Internet. Fortunately, it is quite possible to separate the "useful" Internet from the "harmful" one, and for this it is enough to correctly configure the router that distributes Wi-Fi at home.

Which is better - a router or special programs?

For parental control, a large number of applications have been created that are installed on a computer or smartphone and do not allow visiting sites with questionable content from it.

Some firewalls and antiviruses also have parental controls. Due to deeper interference in system processes, they are able to control and restrict the installation of unsafe programs, set limits on operating hours and access to the Internet, block access to applications, websites, social networks, keep a record of online activities and even identify "unwanted" words in correspondence that the child leads.

However, parental control programs also have disadvantages. First, most of them are paid. Secondly, smart children manage to bypass the blockage. Thirdly, the application protects only the device on which it is installed (and sometimes protection only works in one browser at all). As soon as the child logs on to the network from another phone or computer, there will be no restrictions.

Another thing is parental control on a router. It will apply to all devices connected to it. And getting rid of this control is not easy.

What you need to know to set up your router

You need to understand what it is MAC address и IP address .

The MAC address is the unique physical address of a device connecting to the network. Consists of eight pairs of numbers and letters (a through f), separated by a colon. It looks like 4f: 34: 3a: 27: e0: 16.

An IP address is the network address of a device on a local network or the Internet; it consists of four numbers (from 0 to 255) separated by a period (for example, 124.23.0.254).

Any device, even if it is de-energized, has a MAC address. The device obtains the IP address when it connects to the network. Very often routers issue IP addresses dynamically from unoccupied ones. In the morning, the device can get one IP address, and in the evening it can get a different one. And on another router - generally the third.

You can use the following analogy: the MAC address is the name of the person, and the IP address is his nickname in the team. "Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich", "Vanyok", "son" and "Ivanovich" can mean the same person, but "Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich" he is always, and "son" is only for parents.

The MAC address is used to physically identify the client and it is at this address that filtering is configured in the router. The "Clients" tab of the router's web interface will help you figure out who's name - there is usually a complete list of connected devices, MAC addresses, network names and IP addresses.

The IP address changes, but the MAC address does not. In principle, it can be changed, but on some devices (smartphones, some network cards, network devices) it is rather difficult to do this.

Configuring your router using dedicated parental control tabs

Parental control is a very urgent problem, and router manufacturers massively equip their device firmware with tools to block unwanted content. For D-link and TP-Link routers, blocking is configured through the Yandex.DNS tab, while for TP-Link and Sagemcom the tab is called Parental Control.

Other manufacturers also have similar tabs, with special names and subtleties - there is no universal setup instructions.

Tab Yandex.DNS D-link and TP-link routers use a free service of the same name, which will be described in more detail below. In general, Yandex.DNS can be used on any router, but the D-link router with the new firmware allows you to set restrictions on specific devices on the network.

Using this tab, you can leave "full" access only from certain devices, and all new ones entering the network will enter in a limited mode - for example, in the "child" mode. To do this, assign certain IP addresses to the "parent" devices on the LAN page.

Then, on the Yandex.DNS-Devices and Rules tab, set the “No protection” rule for them.

On the "Yandex.DNS-Settings" tab, set the default "Child" mode.

Done. Now the router allows you to watch everything in a row only to authorized devices, and all others are under control.

TP-link routers have several firmware versions with parental controls. In old firmware, in this tab, you can create a black or white list of sites and, depending on the selected operating mode, deny access to sites in the list or, conversely, allow access only to those specified in the list.

In fact, it's just a URL filter that any router has. The only difference is that here you can set the MAC address of the controlling computer to which the parental control rules will not be applied.

On newer firmware, you can also set a schedule for enabling control and specify a list of devices to which control will apply.

But the latest TP-Link firmware provides more options. Here you can already apply different levels of content filtering to different devices.

The settings allow you to widely vary the level of filtering both by the age of visitors to the "worldwide network" (Preschoolers, Schoolchildren, Teens, Adults), and by content categories (Materials for adults, Gambling, Social networks, etc.).

The functionality of the firmware can compete with some paid programs and services. Here you can also configure the schedule of parental controls.

The Parental Controls tab on Sagemcom routers hides the regular URL filter without the ability to define the clients for which it will act and the Internet availability schedule.

A schedule, unlike a URL filter, can be linked to individual clients.

Setting up a router without parental control tabs

If the Parental Controls tab is not available in the web interface of your device, you should try updating the firmware. If, after the update, nothing similar appears, you will have to make do with the standard features that are available in all models of routers - filtering by URL and changing the address of the DNS server.

Setting up a URL filter

The URL filter allows you to restrict access to specific sites by their names.

On most devices, the URL filter can operate in one of two modes: blacklist or whitelist. In the blacklist mode, all sites will be available except those listed.

Only the listed sites will be available in the whitelist mode.

Since it is absolutely unrealistic to list all the "unreliable" sites, most often the router is configured according to the "hard" second option. As a basis, you can use any recommended whitelist and add sites to it as needed.

A URL filter is useful if its action can or may not be applied to specific devices on the network. Rare routers allow you to flexibly configure each allowed address for each device. Typically, routers allow you to specify at least a list of clients on which the URL filter does not work. If the device does not provide such an opportunity, you will have to change the router settings every time you need to visit a site that is not on the "white list". This is completely inconvenient and it is better to use other access restriction functions.

DNS server address change

The DNS server (name server) converts the site name we are used to (for example, yandex.ru) into the IP address of the Yandex server. Only after receiving this IP address, the browser will be able to open the requested site. Protection against inappropriate content with DNS assumes that instead of a simple DNS server, you use a special DNS server that not only converts the site name into its IP address, but also checks its "trustworthiness". And if the requested site is included in the "black list" of the service, a "stub" will appear on the browser screen instead of the searched site. Simple and effective enough.

It is most convenient to use such services if the router settings allow you to set a different DNS server for different clients (or client groups, or at least networks). Otherwise, you, again, will have to change the router settings every time you see a "stub" instead of the desired site.

In some versions of the connection with the provider, the DNS server cannot be set - it is provided by the provider automatically and is simply not available in the connection settings. In this case, you can try to set it using the DHCP server settings of the router - the DNS server of the service should be entered in the Primary DNS line.

The most common DNS-based parental control services include Yandex.DNS, OpenDNS, and SkyDNS.

Yandex.DNS is a Russian service that provides two levels of protection - "safe" (no fraudulent sites and viruses) and "family" (the same, plus sites for adults are also blocked).

To set the "safe" mode, you must specify one of the two Yandex servers as the DNS server address: 77.88.8.88 or 77.88.8.2. For "family" mode, the addresses are different - 77.88.8.7 or 77.88.8.3.

The advantages of the service are excellent speed, high efficiency and complete free of charge. Cons - you cannot customize or add categories of blocked sites. Social networks, for example, are not blocked. If you want to deny your child access to Vkontakte, you will have to use a URL filter in addition to Yandex.DNS.

OpenDNS (aka Cisco Umbrella) is a DNS server service owned by the American company Cisco.

In addition to public DNS servers, OpenDNS provides servers with protection against unwanted content. For example, Family Shield with protection from adult sites has DNS server addresses 208.67.222.123 or 208.67.220.123. But the free Home option with the ability to set up blocked content is not available in Russia - you can only use the paid Home VIP option.

The advantages of OpenDNS are paid options with the ability to configure. On the downside - there is no safe option without filtering "adult" content, and the filter is mainly aimed at serving the English-speaking segment of the Internet, so that some Russian-language adult sites can pass through the filter.

SkyDNS is a paid service for filtering inappropriate content. By purchasing an account, you will get rich options for configuring the filter. You can choose which category of sites to block (here is security, and sites for adults, and social networks, and games, and much more), set different profiles with different blocking settings, set a schedule for a particular profile, and much more.

There is an extension for Zyxel routers that simplifies service configuration and allows you to apply different profiles to different devices on the network.

This greatly expands the possibilities of control and monitoring - in the personal account of the service, you can get complete statistics on network activity from your network.

The advantage of the service is the widest customization options. Cons - other than the lack of free services - your profile must be bound to a static IP address. If the provider gives you a dynamic IP address when you connect (which happens in 99.9% of cases), you will have to deal with the DDNS configuration on your router, connect one of the DDNS services and bind your profile to it. Or you can connect a static IP service from your provider. However, the SkyDNS website has a description of DDNS settings for most common routers.

How to prevent bypassing parental controls

For many people, any attempt to control it makes you want to bypass it, even if there is no real need for it, and your children are no exception. The strictest filtering on the Internet will be completely useless if you leave loopholes to bypass it.

First, change the username and password for accessing the web interface to something more complicated than the standard admin / admin.

Secondly, having physical access to the router, the password on it can be reset (although this also leads to the reset of all other settings).

Third, block various ways to bypass the blocking. Tor Browser, for example, bypasses any DNS-based services without any problems. The only way to stop this bypass is with hard whitelisting filtering.

If you are filtering content not for the entire network, but only for certain devices, then changing the MAC address will instantly take your child's gadget "out of the hooded." binding to MAC addresses), but think - is such a hard blocking necessary? After all, there are mobile networks, public Wi-Fi networks, etc. If you completely "cut off oxygen" to a child, he may start looking for ways to obtain information completely beyond your control - do you need this? In parental control (and not only in it), it is the "golden mean" that gives the best effect.

Author: Maksim

Parental Controls are a very useful set of features that allow you to restrict and control what you have on your computer, laptop, phone or tablet.

Typically used by parents to restrict children from accessing certain sites, applications, and games. Controlling them and, if necessary, blocking the device so that the child can rest.

Parental Controls on a computer: how to enable and disable

You already know how to put a password on a computer and laptop, today you will learn how to manage the parental control function, install and disable it.

Interesting! Almost all devices support this function, by default it is built into many applications and browsers. This is one of the main features of operating systems.

Important! How to control this function on smartphones and tablets with IOS and Android is written in the article - parental control on the phone.

Parental Controls on a computer - how to install on Windows

Let's consider how to do this using the example of the Windows operating system - its tenth and seventh versions. At the moment, they are most often found on computers and laptops.

Important! In Windows 10, this function requires an Internet connection on the computer. If this does not suit you, you can use special programs for these purposes, they provide even more opportunities. Read about it below.

Windows 10 parental controls

Windows 10 requires you to have a Microsoft account to manage your RC, both you and your child. Create them at - https://signup.live.com/.

After registration, you need to open the system parameters. Press the "WIN + I" keys and in the window that opens, open the "Accounts" section.

In the options go to "Family and other people". To add family members, you need to be authorized in the system using your online record. If you are already logged in - click on the item "Add a family member", if not - then click on the link "Sign in with a Microsoft account" and then log in.

On the page that opens, check the box next to "Add a child's account", enter the email for his account that you created and click on "Next".

If your child is under 8 years old, then the system will automatically put in increased security measures. However, they can be changed manually.

Follow the link - https://account.microsoft.com/family/ and welcome a new family member. It is at this address that parental control will be configured and managed.

Important! I recommend logging into the created account on the computer for the minimum settings of the OS itself.

Windows 10 parental controls

Open the page in your browser - https://account.microsoft.com/family/ and log in with your account. Here you can see the last actions that the child took, the time of using the device, limit the use of games and sites, etc. First of all, go to "Recent Activities" and turn on "Activity Reports".

Further, on the same page, it will be possible to view which software was launched, the list of visited sites. To restrict visits to certain sites, go to the "Content restrictions" item and set the slider next to "Block inappropriate websites" to the enabled state.

Next, just enter the addresses of sites that you do not want to be able to visit. The rest of the settings are made according to the same principle.

Windows 7 parental controls

Open the Windows control panel from the start menu, switch to large icons and go to the "Parental Controls" section.

In the window that opens, click on the button for creating a new account, then enter the name of the new user and create it.

A new account will be created, open it and check the box next to enable parental controls. Its settings will become available.

Windows 7 parental controls

In the same window it will be possible to control:

  • Time spent at the PC, limit it
  • Control access to games
  • Block certain software on the PC to prevent it from starting

Unfortunately, there are not many options for configuring RC in Windows 7. Therefore, I still recommend using programs for these purposes, more on this below.

Parental control - how to disable, remove on the computer

Also, we will consider how to remove this function on the Windows operating system, its tenth and seventh versions.

Disable Windows 10 parental controls

You can remove this feature by simply deleting the account on which it is enabled. To do this, follow the link - https://account.microsoft.com/family/ and remove it from the family group.

If it is not necessary to delete the account, then, on the same page, you can simply configure the account as you need it. For example, immediately turn off the tracking report feature in the Recent Activity section.

Disable Windows 7 parental controls

Go to the control panel, open the "Parental Control" section and click on the required account.

In the page that opens, just disable this function and click "OK".

  3. Turn on Parental Control to record the child.

In the parent control settings, you can set time limits. The system will determine the exact time when the system is turned on and off. If the kid is too late, the computer will automatically stop working at the specified time, saving all the data. There you can also create a whole schedule of PC usage by days of the week.

Let's move on to the settings for limiting games. We select the item Types of games that the child can play. For example, you can select categories of games for children over 10 years old or teenagers, for children, etc. But in this OS, the parental control program is not entirely perfect. The list of games subject to restrictions may not include all games available on your PC. Therefore, it is better to move on to setting the restrictions of specific programs.

After carrying out all the above manipulations, you should turn off the Guest profile through which the settings were made.

Parental Controls on Windows 7 and 8 PCs are installed in the same way. For the 10th version of the operating system, small changes need to be taken into account. To set restrictions, you will need to go online to confirm your email address.

Parental control in windows how to configure and what it can

Setting up parental controls in Windows 7 is carried out according to three key parameters:

  1. Time limit. The main parental control feature. By marking night time, you will not give access to the computer. If the child has to do homework from 14:00 to 16:00, this time is also marked with a blue point - the computer will be locked and the child will conscientiously start doing his homework.
  2. Games. Computer games quickly engage children and distract from lessons. If you are a gamer and have video games installed on your computer, you can also restrict access to them.
  3. Used programs. For example, you can block the browsers installed on the system - then the child will not be able to access the Internet. If the child prefers cartoons in damage to studies, you can block the players.
